5 Reasons Cannabis Can Improve Your Relationship
What’s that old saying? That couples who smoke together or dose together, stay together? Alright, you’ve probably never heard that one before, despite one distinguished, peer-reviewed academic journal or two having proclaimed as much themselves.
Could it really be true? We think so, or that it could at least lend a hand. Here’s why.
1. Cannabis can offer you and your partner a new hobby.
There’s no shortage of enjoyable activities to undertake together when pursuing or experiencing the effects of cannabis. Maybe you want to go for a hike. Maybe you want to chill out at a concert or festival. Maybe you want to puff and paint. Maybe you want to stroll through an art gallery, an exhibit or museum. Heck, you may even want to make your own edibles, extracts and topicals. Whichever way you slice it, cannabis can be considered a common interest. And, at the end of the day, couples with common interests usually get to enjoy several advantages. They can develop stronger bonds. They can share values. They can become more open to the adoption of further mutual interests, and supporting each other in other areas of life.
2. Cannabis can inspire everything to seem funnier.
Cannabis stimulates blood flow to both the right frontal and left temporal lobes. That’s what the studies show. Well, these are areas of the brain which are associated with laughter. And while there’s no available research yet to back up the degree to which that increased blood flow is directly responsible for stimulating laughter, this much is for certain: shared laughter has long been positively associated with superior relationship quality.
3. Cannabis can influence food to taste and smell better.
That means it can make your meals together more pleasurable. And no, the whole “taste and smell better” thing isn’t just a myth, either. It’s actually rooted in scientific fact. Technically speaking, the desire to consume food after ingesting cannabis stems from how the herb’s psychoactive compound — its THC — engages with your brain’s olfactory bulb. This is where cannabis amplifies the sense of smell, which stimulates the appetite and makes food more attractive in succession.
4. Cannabis can significantly reduce short-term levels of stress.
Though it’s oft-debated exactly what CBD and THC dosage levels are necessary for cannabis to relieve stress and help you to relax — one study will tell you this much, the other will tell you that much — the point is that cannabis can do both. Frankly, the discourse is worthy of a whole separate discussion. But, as it relates to this topic, the point is that less stress means less fighting over meaningless (slash stupid) things. And less fighting, of course, means more peace.
5. Cannabis can increase sensitivity during sex.
In other words, it can pave the way for more intense and satisfying orgasms, particularly when used by women with chronic pain disorders that lead to painful sex, women who experience difficulty with orgasm or an inability to orgasm, and women who use it to enhance their libido. Several experts reckon it circles back to the capacity for cannabis to lower stress and anxiety, thereby increasing your confidence and inclination to experiment in the boudoir. Others believe it pertains to how cannabis interacts with your body’s cannabinoid receptors, a few of which are situated in parts of the brain tasked for regulating the hormones that play a role in sex. Either way, it can make for one satisfying climax.
